Description:
Optum is hiring a Senior Data Engineering Analyst for its health analytics team in Chennai. Positioned within the global UnitedHealth Group matrix, this engineering role focuses on building scalable, hyper-secure, and highly reliable data solutions that ingest and transform sprawling healthcare datasets to power downstream advanced analytics. Moving past simple data mapping, you will support the full data engineering lifecycle—designing cloud-native ETL/ELT pipelines, eliminating unnecessary architectural interdependencies, debugging pipeline anomalies before they trigger user-visible outages, and configuring automated validation frameworks to mitigate data quality challenges across multiple healthcare records.
Key Technologies:
Microsoft Azure Cloud, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Databricks, Spark, Scala, Python, Azure DevOps (ADO), SQL, Epic Clarity/Caboodle, Cerner
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Analytics, or a related quantitative stream.
- 3+ years of professional hands-on development depth within the Microsoft Azure Cloud ecosystem, with explicit operational expertise configuring Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines and managing cluster compute workloads in Databricks.
- 3+ years of experience writing robust, maintainable data manipulation scripts using Spark, Scala, or Python, alongside active application tracking via Azure DevOps (ADO).
- 3+ years of combined experience executing core data ingestion, schema normalization, dimensional transformation, complex aggregation, and structured data storage designs.
- 3+ years of experience managing, querying, and performance-tuning industry-standard relational, dimensional, or NoSQL data warehouses using advanced SQL or procedural variations.
- 2+ years of experience designing scalable data architecture solutions, building Source-to-Target Mappings (STMs), and managing functional DataMarts.
- 2+ years of direct experience processing clinical or claims datasets to support healthcare operations, insurance channels, or patient care analytics.
- Hands-on engineering exposure to Epic Clarity or Epic Caboodle data models (ideally holding official Epic certifications), Cerner Millennium/HealthIntent configurations, or writing scripts via Cerner Command Language (CCL).
- Prior experience working with Health Catalyst product lines, specialized clinical knowledge bases, and healthcare warehouse architectures.
- Functional fluency writing administration and batch scripts using Unix Shell or PowerShell to control pipeline tasks.
- Experience optimization schemas to smoothly feed reporting dashboards inside standard platforms like Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or MicroStrategy.
- Readiness to utilize enterprise-approved AI tools to automate repetitive engineering workflows and continuously optimize technical debt layers.
- Proven success collaborating across cross-functional analytical divisions, sharp documentation habits for corporate governance tracking, and strong written and verbal technical English communication skills.
